The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Whenever a prominent awards ceremony nears, there’s always a clamor to include of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and fill the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition completely in 2014
  • Another creative title missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
